Betty's Story

Text size

Betty Sachiko Osborn, 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Services to celebrate her life have been entrusted to Rice Funeral Service.
Betty was born on October 30, 1929 in Shiroishi Miyagi, Japan. She was the daughter of Satogi and Matsuno (Kikuchi) Kusaka. She grew up in Japan and was educated in all-girls school.
She met Charles Leslie Osborn, a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Japan, and they married on June 21, 1952 in Tokyo.
Soon after, the two boarded a boat and Betty moved from urban Japan to rural Kansas.
The Wichita area was home for the couple until the late sixties when they moved to Claremore for Charles's job with American Airlines. Betty was described as courageous, fearless, and protective.
This courage was magnified when this lovely young woman left all that was familiar to her and made a new life in a whole new country. While enjoying her life in the states she has embraced being a part of the Japanese Club — keeping her Japanese culture strong.
When she had spare time she and Charles loved participating in their square dance organization. This multi cultured couple enjoyed opening their home and hearts to numerous foreign exchange students.
Betty is not only survived by a multitude of friends but also her beloved family which include her two children: Kathy Adams and husband, Dave, of Norman, and Leslie Osborn and wife, Kerry, of Norwalk, CA; her two grandchildren, Nate Adams and Catherine Osborn; and her brother, Noboru Kusaka from Japan.
