Services to honor the life of Bill Conley will be 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Catoosa, Oklahoma. He will be laid to rest at the Wofford Cemetery.
Bill passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 in Tulsa. He was 74.
Bill Conley was born in Tulsa, Okla. on Jan. 14, 1943, the fifth of six boys, to Dale Conley and Ira Lee (Griffith) Conley.
He was raised in Catoosa, and attended Catoosa Schools. Growing up he spent most of his time around ponds and in the woods, hunting and fishing. When he was a young man around the age of twelve he began working with his father, pouring concrete and doing other construction jobs.
On Nov. 27, 1961, at the age of 18, Bill married his best friend and dance partner, Eva Wilkerson.
It was after their group of friends wouldn't let them go home, until they used the marriage certificate that Eva was carrying around in her purse, they found a minister around 9:00 in the evening and began a fifty-six-year long commitment.
The family made their home in Catoosa and out of this union were born three children. In the mid-seventies they moved to Chelsea, and this is where he began his company: Conley Construction. When their children had graduated high school, they moved back home to Catoosa.
It was then that Eva and Bill traveled around the state pouring concrete for the Cherokee Nation. In 1988 they moved to California where Bill was involved with a gold-mining club. In 1992 they moved back to Catoosa.
Bill enjoyed spending time outside, especially hunting, trapping, fishing -catching catfish in the Verdigris River, and on Lake Hudson and Grand Lake.
He always raised a big garden and had pigs, chickens, goats and rabbits. He loved to cook, and all his family loved to eat his charcoal chicken.
He was a family man, and was given many opportunities to work at jobs that would have taken him away from home, but he always chose to be close to home, to be near his wife and children.
He loved his children and grandchildren, they meant the world to him.
Bill was preceded in death by his father: Dale Conley; and his brothers: Curtis, Fred, Jack, and Donnie Conley.
Bill is survived by his wife: Eva Conley of the home; his mother: Ira Lee (Griffith) Burris of Catoosa; his three children: Billy Conley and his wife Sobronia of Catoosa, Randy Conley of Catoosa, and Tisha Chalupa and her husband, Jeff of Catoosa; seven grandchildren: Cory, Casey, Jake and Sidnee Conley and Madison, Sara, and Emma Chalupa; one brother: Jerry Conley of Catoosa and his wife, Brenda; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends, especially his coffee shop friends.
Viewing will be held from 12-8 p.m., Thursday evening at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore.
