A funeral ceremony honoring and remembering the life of Bobby Joe Clark will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Tiawah Community Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Bobby passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 in Tulsa. He was 81.
Bobby was born December 5, 1935 to Joseph Cecil Clark and Leona Mae Mushrush Clark in Claremore. When he was young the family moved to Langley, where his dad was game warden during the time when Grand Lake was being built. They later moved to Tulsa where his father worked as a police officer, until he was killed in the line of duty. Bobby went to school in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School.
In 1956 he married Mary Margaret Cheek and three children were born from that marriage. They made their home in Tulsa and Bobby worked as an electrician for a time, and in 1963 he became a Deputy Sheriff. In 1964 he married Sandra Sweetin and in 1975 a son, Joe was born. In 1977 they moved to Tiawah and moved into the family home they have today. In the early 1980s Bobby joined the Tiawah Volunteer Fire Dept. and he officially retired the day he passed away. In 1991 Bobby, along with Steve Lamb, and Robert Ailshie, started the Tiawah Community Baptist Church, which originated in the Tiawah School and was later built on land donated by Frank and Nadyne Sweetin.
Bobby enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many days on Grand Lake and Grand River, and took trips to Canada and Alaska hunting Caribou and Bear. He also spent time hunting at his father-in-law's Ranch in Tahlequah.
Bobby is remembered by his family as a loving, supportive, and "Hands-on" father and grandfather. He was always giving of himself, and would do anything for his family. He always told his family he "just loved having everyone around him". He was a storyteller and a teaser, and gave all his family nicknames. Many memories were made during their yearly motorhome trips to Colorado in the summertime. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Jim Clark; and one daughter: Anna Liza Clenney.
Surviving family members include his wife of 52 years: Sandra K. Clark of Tiawah; children: Mary Leona Boykin and husband Craig of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Jacqua Annette Boley and husband Mike of Coweta, OK; Joe Clark of Tiawah; one sister-in-law: Pat Clark; twelve grandchildren: Paula K. Simpson, Bobby Odell Gamble, Joshua Boley, Jeramy Boley, Andrew Boley, Amanda Boley, Colby Clark, Wyatt Clark, Katlynn Clark, Sharon Krause, Rachel Tucker, Danny Clenney; 26 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other and friends.
