Cleo's Story

Services honoring and remembering Cleo R. Washburn will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore, Oklahoma with burial to follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Cleo was born May 17, 1933 to Henry and Edna Mullins at McAlester, Oklahoma. She was raised and educated in the Claremore area, coming to Rogers County in 1937 and this has been her home since that time.
As a teen Cleo began working like an adult, learning adult lessons at a very young age.
Her mom passed away when she was almost thirteen She worked in a local restaurant as a young woman then worked several years for Gateway Luggage, later at Mobile International, Murphy Switch and Claremore Jr. High Cafeteria.
On December 17, 1960 she married Joe Merle Washburn in Claremore's old Methodist Church.
She loved to dance, and enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and working in her flower beds. She enjoyed travels, often in their camper at Beaver Lake in Arkansas.
She was an Excellent cook and looked forward to her family dinners.
Although she didn't attend church regularly, she talked to God every day.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Alberta Sappington, Elgere Holman, Lucille Landsaw and Louise Powell; two infant brothers; one grandson: Brian Dorsey and one great-granddaughter: Tiffany Dorsey; two nieces Virginia Martin and Carol Davis.
Cleo is survived by her husband of 57 years: Joe M. Washburn; daughter: Jackie Sue Dorsey; son: Terry Ray Washburn; three grandchildren: Joe Paul Dorsey and his wife Jeanie, Amy Gann and her husband Tony, Trent Dorsey and his wife Jennifer; and several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; two nieces Sandra Blackwell and Shirley Burnette; two nephew Ray Martin and Jerry Miller.
