Home-going services for Donald Ray Johnson will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of DeLozier Funeral Service, Chelsea. Don left his temporary earthly home for his eternal heavenly home on Friday, July 29, 2016. He was 81.
Don was born in Tulsa, Okla. on Feb. 6, 1935 in a little house on 6th Street to Joseph Richard and Elsie Marie Johnson. He attended Oologah Schools for most of his life while living on a farm in the Oologah area. He graduated High School in Tulsa and then joined the Naval National Guard and served for 2 years.
In 1954 Don married Dollie May Flowers. In 1956 their first child, Terri Lea, was born. A career change for Don took them from Tulsa to California. Upon the unexpected death of his brother, Bobby, they returned to Tulsa to be near to family and to work alongside his father in the family business. Then in 1968, their son, Joseph Richard Johnson II, was born. Don started Security Unlimited in Tulsa.
It was through his hard work and determination that he grew the business and was supplying over 200 security guards to the Tulsa area businesses. He eventually opened an office in Joplin.
He became a licensed Polygrapher and worked with many businesses doing preemployment exams along with loss prevention. Governor David Boren even appointed Don to the State Board of Polygraphists. He also worked for Orion Loss Prevention Analyst Ltd. which once again allowed him to use his skills as a polygraphist.
In 1977, he married Betty Passmore of Claremore. Betty had two children, Darlene and Monte Passmore, who Don loved as his own. Don and Betty lived in Claremore and Don commuted daily to Tulsa.
Don loved his family, enjoyed reading, and playing the guitar. You could often find him sharing wisdom, time and affection with his family over the years.
This father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. Don is survived by his children, Terri Lea McAuliff and husband David, Joe Johnson and wife Georgia, Darlene Passmore-Armstrong, and Monte Passmore and wife Melody; grandchildren, Alissa Freeman and husband Ben, Justin McAuliff and wife Jessica, Ashley Daugherty and husband Pastor Paul, Rachael Homcy and husband Brent, Cole Johnson and wife Jacy, Courtney Thornhill and husband Blake, Connor Johnson, BJ Armstrong and wife Rachel, Mavis Vineyard and husband Clint, and Dallas Lyons and husband Tyler; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Luke, Ella and Ava Freeman, Jadyn, Makayla, Zoe and Major McAuliff, Liam and Benaiah Daugherty,  Emmalyn Homcy, Owen and Hayden Armstrong, Kendall Hatter, Brelee, Darcy and Tristan Vinyard; nieces and nephews, Randy, Robbie, and Rusty Johnson, Gayle Moon, and Jeff Arnold.
