Memorial services for Donald Edward Webster, 89, of Pryor will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Pryor. Pastor Roger Parker will officiate.
Don Webster was born on January 18, 1928 to Reo and Ruth (Van Valkenburgh) Webster in Deer Creek, Oklahoma. He passed away on April 20, 2017 at his home in Pryor at the age of 89.
After Don graduated from Deer Creek High School he attended Oklahoma A&M University (now OSU), receiving his bachelor's degree in music education. In January of 1950 he married Merlene Bachman and from their union came five children, Jerry, Barbara, Bob, Mike, and Tricia.
After college graduation, Don was hired as band director in Chelsea, Oklahoma, and moved to Chelsea with Merlene. He received his master's degree in music from the University of Oklahoma in 1955 and moved to Tahlequah the same year. Don was band director in Tahlequah until 1959 when the family moved to 93 Bryan in Pryor, where Don and Merlene have lived ever since.
During his time at Pryor Public Schools, he was Band Director, became High School Principal in 1970, and Assistant Superintendent in 1973. Don attended church at the First United Methodist Church in Pryor. He was an avid tennis player, runner, and an accomplished sculptor.
He is survived by his wife, Merlene; three sons, Jerry Webster and wife Stephanie, Robert Webster and wife Cathy and Mike Webster and wife Elizabeth all of Pryor; one daughter Tricia Webster Armstrong and husband Paul of Wabaunsee, Kansas; son-in-law Mike Green; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanette Reese and husband Darrell of Nardin, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Barbara Green.
