Ella Kathelene Cowan was born on October 26, 1926, in Murphy, Oklahoma, to William and Josie (Russell) Powell. She departed this life on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at her home in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 26 days.
Kathelene grew up in Murphy, Oklahoma. She later graduated high school in Kuna, Idaho. She went on pursue becoming a Licensed Practitioner in Nursing through Pryor Vo-Tech. She had worked at several nursing homes in the area, as well as Park Hill in Locust Grove. On October 26, 1946, in Columbus, Kansas, Kathelene married Francis "Stub" Cowan. Stub preceded his wife in death on November 2, 2006. The couple had been married for over 60 years.
Kathelene made her home on Sargear Street in Locust Grove for over 68 years. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She had taught crocheting to the Seniors at Locust Grove High School for some time. Kathelene loved to spend time making quilts and growing African Violets. She loved her family dearly and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Kathelene is survived by: 3 children: Elaine (Cowan) Bearden of Wagoner, Oklahoma, David Cowan and wife Gloria of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Jackie Craig and husband Dorn of Peggs, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren: Jolene Ward and husband Brad, Kayleen Halpain, Mark Cowan, Brent Cowan, Corey Cowan, and Courtney Cowan, Crystal Alberty and husband Nick, Franci Huffman, Matthew Armes and wife Tanae', and Joshua Craig;6 great grandchildren: Katherine Cowan, Trever Alberty, Matthew Alberty, Bradie Marquez and husband Alex, Austin Lee Huffman, and Jacob Huffman; 1 sister: Vee Ward and husband Darrel of Fairland, Oklahoma; her only cousin: Bobby Russell of Cedar Crest, Oklahoma.
Kathelene was preceded in death by her: her parents: William and Josie Powell; her husband: Francis "Stub" Cowan; and 1 sister: Rose DeVault.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Shawn Bates will officiate. Interment will follow at the Haner-Adair Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
