Farris's Story

Farris J. Stevens was born March 15, 1932 in Murphy, Oklahoma to Austin Thomas and Jennie (Hill) Stevens. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his home in Tulsa, at the age of 85 years and 7 days.

Farris grew up in the Peggs and Hulbert areas having attended schools at Lucky, New Home and Peggs. He graduated Tahlequah Senior High. Upon graduation, he served his country in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge and service, by using the G.I. Bill, Farris obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. Later, he received his Master's Degree in Vocational Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

On August 10, 1957, in Tahlequah, Patricia Ann Hendrickson and Farris J. Stevens were united in marriage. The couple lived in Tahlequah for some time before moving to Wilburton. For the last 57 years, Farris and Pat have made Tulsa their home. They have been married just shy of 60 years.

Farris taught vocational education for several different schools in the Tulsa Public Schools system. He retired after 29 years. He enjoyed fishing and going hunting for quail. Farris was a talented woodworker and carpenter. He was a perfectionist and wanted to make sure every job was done exactly right. Farris figured if it was worth doing, then it was worth doing right. He is loved dearly and will be missed by those that knew him.

Farris is survived by: His wife, Pat, of the home; 1 son: Farris Michael Stevens and wife Cydney of Austin, Texas; 2 grandchildren: Chancelor and Pyper; 1 brother: Dawes Stevens and wife Velva of Peggs, Oklahoma; Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; 5 brothers: Cleston, Lawson, Melvin, Doyle, and Cecil; 6 sisters: Cloreen, Genevieve, Cleora, Evelyn, Nina Mae, and Juanita; and 1 daughter: Lynette Stevens.

Funeral services were, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Peggs Community Church in Peggs, Oklahoma. Rev. Rex Hendrickson and Rev. Travis Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at New Home Cemetery near Peggs, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
