Born June 13, 1937 in Dott, West Virginia to John Hugh and Iva Ruth (Bennett) Shrewsbury, Joyce began school in Dott, then following a move to Sellersburg, Indiana, she continued her education there. Following her schooling, she married Charles Vernon Fryman and the newlywed couple moved to Oklahoma, where he worked for Dorothy Lowery on her farm.
Joyce was not only a wonderful mother, she was also a hard working help around the farm. The large garden she tended to provided fresh produce, which they preserved to have all year long. She took great care of her family and loved being with them. Her greatest joy was those grandchildren, she took every opportunity to spend time with them. Joyce also loved to sew and read romance novels. She enjoyed taking care of her dogs, Callie and Tinkerbell.
Those family members that survive include her daughters Madeline Arrington, Verna K. Phillips and Shelia Showalter; her siblings John Shrewsbury, Clyde Shrewsbury, Kenneth Shrewsbury, Betty Daniel and Linda Long; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild on the way. Joyce was preceded in death by her mother and step-dad Iva and Nole Havens and her father and step-mother John and Lucille Shrewsbury, her husband Charles Vernon Fryman, her sisters Dorothy Troub and Barbara Havens and her brother Hugh Offeral Shrewsbury, grandson Charles Allen Collins and her great grandson Clifford Vernon Collins.
