A celebration of life honoring Gregory Vincent "Greg" Jones is set for 4 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the DestinyLife Church in Claremore. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Rice Funeral Service.
Greg passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018. He was 63 years old.
Born June 9, 1954 in Missouri, Greg was the son of Howard Vincent and Shirley (McVay) Jones. Greg's father, a petroleum engineer, relocated several times in Greg's younger years before settling near Amarillo, Texas where he met Beverly Parker in 1969. Greg and Beverly were young teenagers in their local church, Greg 15, Beverly 14. As a junior in high school, Greg found new direction in accepting Christ.
Greg graduated from Canyon High School with the Class of 1972. Greg's work ethic was formed while working many jobs through his high school years. Greg was able to purchase Bev's engagement ring with money he earned flipping Big Macs at McDonald's. After graduation, Greg and Beverly were married Aug. 31, 1973 in Amarillo.
Greg attended bible school at Southwestern Assemblies of God in Waxahachie, Texas. Greg worked this way through college through various jobs while Beverly worked in the college business office. Following his graduation, the couple moved to Claremore in 1978 where Greg served as a youth pastor in First Assembly of God Church. Later the Joneses moved to Burlington, Colorado serving as a youth pastor for Bethel Assembly. The Joneses served as senior pastors in Calhan, Colo. before moving back to Claremore, Oklahoma. Greg and Beverly joined the Shaffers on staff in August 1983, at Evangel Assembly now called DestinyLife Church in Claremore.
Greg and Beverly accepted the call to be sent to serve as pastors at New Life Church in Selma, CA from 1999-2007, a church related to Destiny Life Church. He and Beverly returned to Oklahoma in 2007, where he has served on the pastoral team of DestinyLife Church Owasso Campus.
An entrepreneur at heart, Greg had a gift for creating and operating successful business enterprises. He served a dual role in both business and ministry continuously since the late 1980's. Greg was a man of many great ideas and always had a keen ability to market them. His business endeavors included the marketing of various products and building business nationally and internationally.
Surviving family members include his wife, Beverly; his parents; his two children: Ryan Vincent Jones and his wife, Kendra, and Lesleigh Rutherford and her husband, Eric; his siblings: Cristie Boston and her husband, Paul, Doug Jones and his wife, Jami; and his eight grandchildren: Braeden Vincent, Caleb, Abby, Makenzie, Kaidyn, Kennedy, Zoë, and Journey.
