Services honoring, remembering and celebrating the life of Henry Sunday, Jr. will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Claremore. Interment will be private in the Round Springs Cemetery in Eucha. Henry passed away suddenly Dec. 25, 2016 in Tulsa at the age of 60.
Born Aug. 4, 1956 in Claremore, Henry was the son of Henry and Mary (Teehee) Sunday. He was one of seven children in the most loving home imaginable on Reavis Road. Henry loved the outdoors and spent many endless hours hunting deer and turkey. Never a stranger to hard work, he began his first real job at the age of 13 at the Chief's Swap Shop. Henry loved cars and he was particularly good at working on them. He owned a Chevelle and a couple of Corvettes in his early days when he was known to be quite the "shade tree" mechanic. Henry graduated from Claremore High School with the Class of 1974.
Henry began working for Baker's Trenching after high school and remained involved with the company for many years. John Baker became his lifelong best friend. He also spent 22 years with Terra Nitrogen and his last 14 years with American Airlines. Henry gained a great deal of respect from his friends and colleagues and was commonly known for his ability to fix or repair anything.
Always joking and laughing, Henry had a special way of making people feel better. He was dependable, respectful, and always there to help others. Family was always a top priority to Henry. He was always organized in his own special way. Henry's to-do list always kept him organized, most of which was written on his hand or the notepad in his truck. He will be greatly missed by many and certainly remembered in our hearts forever.
Surviving family members include his parents; his two sons: Paul and Dewey Sunday of Tulsa; his five sisters: Laverda Bohanon and husband Terry of Tahlequah, Louise Imerbthama and husband Tavin of Owasso, Susie Sunday, Julie Welch and husband John, and Patricia Lawson, all of Claremore; and his companion: Kristi Babb and her son Creed of Claremore.
Henry was preceded in death by his brother, Dewey Sunday.
