Howard E. Buetow, 91, of Brownsburg, passed away on December 6, 2017. He was born in Chicago, IL on June 5, 1926 to the late Paul and Stella Buetow. He was the second born of four children. Being a child of the depression and his family needing assistance, Howard was sent to live on his uncle's farm in northern Wisconsin. He lived there until graduating high school and enlisting in the Army paratroopers during World War II. He served in the South Pacific and was in the first occupation troops of Japan. Upon completion of his service he returned to Chicago and married Doris Martin in 1948. Soon after marrying, Howard began a long career in the insurance industry first as an assistant in the underwriting department of Great American Insurance Company, later joining the Illinois Inspection Rating Bureau, and CNA Insurance Group holding positions as Rating Engineer, Field Agent and Production Manager. With each new position requiring a transfer and a new location, he eventually brought his family to settle in Brownsburg, IN. Howard left the company side of the business to manage McClain Matthews Insurance Agency Indianapolis and eventually purchased the agency. He and wife Doris co-owned and ran the agency until selling it to their son. Howard was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church ELCA Brownsburg, IN, serving on the church council, as treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president. He served on many committees and as the building chairman for the first church building project. Howard served on the Indiana Kentucky Synod Board and was the Synod Treasurer for several years. Howard was an active member of his community. He was elected to the Brownsburg School Board serving three terms until retiring from the board. Howard enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends. Howard was predeceased by his wife Doris to whom he was married for 64 years. Howard is survived by his children Keith (Brenda) Buetow, Kenneth (Katherine) Buetow, Karen (Philip) Collins and Karl (Lisa) Buetow, and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Mon. Dec. 11 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, IN. Funeral services will be 10 am Tues. Dec. 12 at Messiah Lutheran Church ELCA, 801 South Green St., Brownsburg, IN.
