Funeral mass for Irene Marie Koelsch will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Pryor with burial to follow at Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove. Father Celestine Obidiegwu will officiate. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM with Rosary to follow led by Phyllis Buffo. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care.
Irene Marie Koelsch was born on February 13, 1914 in Oklahoma City to John and Mary (Ruzicha) Swanda. She departed this life on December 5, 2016 at her home in Locust Grove on the street named after her late husband at the age of 102 years, 9 months, and 22 days.
Irene grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Central High School. On August 6, 1935 she married Joseph Sebastian Koelsch who preceded her in death in 1977. From their union came three sons and one daughter. Irene worked in the home and was a devoted wife and mother. In 1957 she and her family moved from Oklahoma City to Locust Grove.
She was an active and devoted member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Pryor; she played the organ there for 57 years. She had made over 1,000 rosaries for various missionaries and continued to do so up to her last days.
Irene loved planting a vegetable garden and canning her vegetables. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens as well. She had the most beautiful peony bushes and she loved her lilies. Irene was a very special lady who lived a long and blessed life. She was loved by all her family, friends, and community and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry Koelsch, Donald "Doc" Koelsch, and Bill Koelsch and wife Shirley; one daughter, Joanne Johnson and husband Monte; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Jake Bales; three brothers and three sisters.
