James passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Tulsa, OK. He was 86.
Born in Joplin, MO on December 27, 1932 to Ward and Jessie (Hatcher) Spivy, James served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. After receiving his honorable discharge, James returned to the States. He began a work career with American Airlines as a mechanic that lasted until his retirement. On July 2, 1974, James married the love of his life, Marie, and they became a blended family with nine children.
Referred to as "PaPa" by his children and grandchildren, James loved family and made each time they were all together memorable. His family said he was very good at doing exactly what Marie (Granny) wanted him to do. Holidays were nothing but work for James as their home was decorated inside and out. Grandson Justin said it exploded with Christmas. Marie wanted to win the contest for the best decorated home in Claremore.
When free time presented itself James enjoyed tinkering with any type of small engine. Many times he would tear it apart just to put it back together again. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Even when his health failed and he was in the Claremore VA Center; he continued to fish and even won the fishing contest there in June of this year. Playing card games was another enjoyment, especially when he was winning at Red Azz with family and friends.
This father, papa, uncle, and friend will be missed by all who knew him. James is survived by his children, Travis Dutton, Gary Spivy, Jason Spivy, Tiffany Dutton, Nancy Swimmer, and Jeannie McCleary, grandchildren, Justin Dutton and wife Amanda, James Dutton, Clay Dutton, Shelby Wells and husband Tyler, Chrissy Dutton, Kaylynn Dutton, Sherrie Bias and husband Tim, Shellie Ellis and husband Burl, 30 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister, Patricia Harralson and husband Richard, brother, Gene Spivy and wife Mary, and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife of twenty four years, Marie, daughter, Dianna Lynn Smith, sons, Stanley Dutton and David Dutton.
