A celebration of the life of James Jacob (JJ) Dick Utsler will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016 at the Chelsea United Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Dawes Cemetery under the direction of DeLozier Funeral Service, Chelsea. James passed away on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016. He was 30 years old.
James was born in Claremore, Okla. on July 21, 1986. James was the only child of Cherie Alice Dick and the oldest son of Chris Alan Utsler. He attended public school in the Rogers County area and graduated from Chelsea High School in 2005. James was a man of many talents and worked in various professions, but he was best known for his mechanical and horticulture skills in growing hot peppers. James was a loving, caring young man who would go out of his way to help his family and friends. Over the last several years he was the primary care giver for his aging grandmother, Mary Brown. Before committing to take care of his grandmother, James worked as a host/cashier at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Catoosa, Oklahoma and as the produce manager for Harps Grocery store in Chelsea, Oklahoma. Everywhere that James worked he acquired many close friends. James treated all of his friends as family and many became permanent members of his extended family.
James is survived by his mother, Cherie Alice Dick and her partner Anita Lowe of the home; by his father, Chris Alan Utsler and wife Mary of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his sisters, Leighann Schekel of Phoenix, Ariz.; Elizabeth Perkins of Owasso, Okla.; Melina Jones of Claremore, Okla.; Jenna Miller of Tulsa, Okla.; Kathy Herzberg of Texas; Destiny Utsler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his brother, Cameron Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his maternal-grandmother, Mary Brown of the home; his paternal-grandmother, Nancy Utsler of Chelsea; his grandfather, John Terry and wife Mary of Tulsa; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and members of his extended family. James is preceded in death by his paternal-grandfather, Charles P. Utsler, Jr. and his grandfather, Floyd Ugene Dick.
