Jimmie's Story

A memorial ceremony honoring and celebrating the life of Jimmie Patrick O'Brien, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, 25 October 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Claremore. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rice Funeral Service and Cremation Center.
Jimmie passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18 2016 at his Claremore residence with his loving family and friends by his side. He was born 8 May 1942 in the community of Dawson, just outside of Tulsa, the son of James Patrick and Betty Leigh (Sturdivant) O'Brien. The family later moved to Catoosa with Jimmie graduating from Will Rogers High School Class of 1960.
Jimmie and Sherry were married in parent's home in Derby, Kansas 3 July 1976. This loving marriage was blessed by the birth of son Andy.
Jimmie was employed by McDonnell Douglas for 27 years holding numerous positions, receiving many awards and accolades. Highly regarded by all of his peers and known by all to be a kindhearted, sweet and loving man with always a smile or having a kind word. After his career at McDonnell Douglas, Jimmie owned radiator shops in Tulsa and Bartlesville, and in 1993, opened The Radiator Shoppe in Claremore, which he owned and operated for over 20 years.
Jimmie loved all aspects of classic cars and street rods. Attending car shows, swap meets, and enjoying street rod cruises with his friends were one of his many passions. Jimmie was one of the founding members of the Tulsa Roadster Club. He loved and cherished spending time with his grandchildren, who loved going to grandpa's house and were so excited when grandpa came to visit. His dogs — Suzy, Molly, Jinx and CeeCee were so precious to him. His dogs were always by his side, whether in the house or outside in his shop at home.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers — Cecil Reese and Larry O'Brien; two sisters — Dona Cottingim and Wanda Jo Stewart. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Sherry O'Brien; son Andy O'Brien and wife Lacy, daughter Kathy Osburn and husband Justin, and son Greg O'Brien and wife Stacy; three sisters — Doris Hammons, Becky O'Brien and Billie Sue Williams, and five grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, Noelle, Presley and Colton. www.ricefuneralservice.com.
