Funeral services for Jimmie Leroy Rust, 66, Adair, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 10AM at Jubilee Ministries in Locust Grove. Pastor John Blackwell will officiate and burial will follow at Haner-Adair Cemetery in Locust Grove. Pallbearers for the service will be Roland James, Corey James, Jimmie McFarland, Colton McClain, Zak Blackwell and Justin Brown. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral & Cremation Care in Pryor. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to DAV Chapter 43 in Pryor.
Jimmie was born on Oct. 20, 1949 in Tulsa to Donald M. and Imogene (Shelman) Rust. He passed away on August 30, 2016 in Oklahoma City at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 10 days.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and served during Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he joined the reserves for 12 years where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was married to Bonnie Brown on March 10, 1969 in Tulsa and from their union came four daughters. Jimmie worked as a truck driver for many years, retiring from Hamill Trucking, and he and Bonnie have made their home in Adair for the past 30 years.
He was very active in the DAV and held most offices. He served as a chapter service officer where he helped veterans in filing claims. He was honored to be able to travel to Washington D.C. in April this year on an Honor Flight trip. The past 7 years, he was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and was designated to help children.
Jimmie loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandkids and always had a good story or tall tale for them. He was a kind and loving husband, daddy, grandpa and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Bonnie, of the home; three daughters, Tonya Blackwell and husband David of Harker Heights, Texas, Christina McFarland of Pryor and Nickie James and husband Corey of Strang; a nephew and niece that he raised as his own, Robert Weeks and Michelle Purl, both of Pryor; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Fawcett and husband Larry of Glenpool and Patty Childers and husband Phil of Tulsa and two brothers, Larry Rust and wife Terri of Owasso and Bobby Rust and wife Laura of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karla and two grandsons, Derek and Dustin.
