A memorial ceremony honoring and remembering the life of John George Wilken will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church. A private interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rice Funeral Service and Cremation Center. John was born July 7, 1934 in Buffalo, New York, the son of John C. and Minnie (Long) Wilken. He attended Burgard High School where he received his A&P license in Aviation. John met and married Kathleen (Cochrane) in 1965.
Family was always the most important priority for John. He had many true passions which included planes, trains, and antiques. John had a great knowledge of military aircraft, he collected Lionel trains, and loved going to flea markets and antique shops. Family dinners on Sundays were one of the greatest highlights of his life. John would always ask, "How many are coming?" There was always a place at the table for everyone. It didn't matter whether it was just five or twenty people.
John is survived by his wife, Kathy; his sister, Ruth Luss; his daughters, Karen Pratt (Shawn), Michelle Orr (Nelson); his sons, Matthew Wilken (Salesha), and John M. Wilken; his grandchildren, Jimmy, Johnny, and Julie Newcomb, Layne Pratt, Gabby Orr, Brian and Katie Wilken, and Payton, Makayla and Emily Wilken.
In lieu of flowers, by request of John's family, please direct contributions to Saint Francis Hospice. www.ricefuneralservice.com.
