Juanita's Story

Juanita Louise Bighorse was born July 23, 1934, in Kenwood, Oklahoma to Frank and Bessie (Hughes) Osage. She departed this life on Friday, February 3, 2017 at her home in Locust Grove, at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 11 days.

Growing up, Louise attended grade school at Smith Chapel near in Rose, Oklahoma. She graduated Tahlequah Sequoyah High School with the class of 1952. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Frank Bighorse. On November 7, 1959, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Juanita Louise Osage and Franklin E. Bighorse were united in marriage. They had been married for over 57 years. Louise lived in Locust Grove most all of her life, except for several years spent in California, while her husband was serving in the United States Marines Corps.

Louise had worked for Red Devil in Pryor for 26 years as a Supervisor. She later worked for Gates for 8 years, and then Cherokee Nation Head start for 3 years, finally retiring in 2004. Louise was a charter member of the Country Baptist Church in Locust Grove. She had served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, as well as Women on Missions Director. Louise loved to serve others and was a grandma to everyone she met. She was the best cook and pie maker around. Louise loved her husband, children and grandchildren dearly and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Louise is survived by: her husband Frank Bighorse of the home; 3 sons: Mark Bighorse and wife Clara of Stilwell, Randy Bighorse and wife Stacey of Locust Grove, and Terry Bighorse of Locust Grove;9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Phyllis Doty of Locust Grove, and Annabella O'Canas of Pryor; 2 brothers: John Osage and wife Sue of Locust Grove, and Steve Osage of Locust Grove; Numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; 1 son: Edward Bighorse; 1 brother: Frankie Osage; and 1 brother-in-law: John Doty.

Wake services will be held 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Locust Grove Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Cornerstone Outreach Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Reverend Keith Marler and Reverend Rick Kiddy will officiate. Interment will follow at McClain Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
