On Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones, Kenneth Ray Elkins rested in his Savior's arms.
He was born Aug. 16, 1928, to Frank and Alma Elkins at Mangum and graduated from Granite High School. Upon accepting the call of God to the ministry in June of 1948, he graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and entered the Southwestern Seminary at Fort Worth, Texas.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alma Elkins; his brothers, Frank, Bill and Jack Elkins; his in-laws, Charles and Audye Dees; brother-in-law Paul Dees; sisters-in-laws Evelyn Elkins and Nelda Elkins-Coates, and Floy Dees.
He is survived by his bride, Vonnye Elkins of 66 years; daughters Carol Stanfield and husband, Doug, of Leander, Texas, Jeannie Brown and husband, Terry, of Newcastle and Kenda Horne and husband, Jay, of Ada; grandchildren Bryan and Tussany Stanfield, Chris and Amanda Stanfield, Jon and Shelley Askins, Jennifer Brown and Cameron Horne; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Ethan and McKayla Stanfield, Ariana, Caden and Callan Stanfield, and Megan and Nicole Askins; sister-in-law Yvonne Dees of Hydro; and nephew Paul Dees Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ada, with the Rev. Jerry Wells and Pastor Harold Ware officiating. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. today at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home.
