Funeral services for Kenneth Jones Sr., 80, of Skiatook, are Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor. Rev. Tommy Honeycutt will officiate with burial following at Graham Memorial Cemetery in Pryor. Visitation will be held on Friday, before the service, from 12-2PM. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral & Cremation Care in Pryor.
Kenneth Eugene Jones was born on September 30, 1935 in Pryor to Luther M. and Ada L. (Arnold) Jones. He passed away on May 15, in Collinsville.
Kenneth was married to Barbara Fern Stafford on June 12, 1954 in Pryor. Kenneth was a Free Will Baptist minister from 1954-2004 and he received a 50 year plaque from Ft. Gibson Free Will Baptist Church. He also was responsible for initializing the first Free Will Baptist youth camp in northwest Arkansas.
In his early years, he worked for Sharpe's Department Store in Pryor then transferred to Broken Arrow. In 1962, he went to work for Walmart, Store #1, in Rogers, Arkansas and was the first department manager, in the shoe department. Kenneth also attended college while working and obtained his teaching degree. He taught school at Shady Grove, near Tahlequah, for a short time, then he taught 4th grade at Salina Elementary for 14 ½ years, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Ken Jones Jr. and wife Darla of Tahlequah and his daughter Kathy Selman and husband Chuck of Skiatook; 7 grandchildren, Bart Jones and wife Shawnda, Kelli Lenz and husband Nathan, Kendy Brown and husband Adam, Daniel Johnson, Emily Fasano and husband Anthony, Sarah Schaffer and husband Nolan and Chad Selman and wife Katrina; 16 great grandchildren; 3 siblings, Latricia Shrum, Lloyd Jones and Janice Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and an infant brother, Luther Leon Jones.
