Funeral services for Larry Gene Doerflinger will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor. Pastor Ted Estes will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care.
Larry Gene Doerflinger was born on September 25, 1950 to J.R. "Jay" and Rita "Pat" (Carnahan) Doerflinger in Burley, Idaho. He departed this life on April 8, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 14 days.
Larry was a lifetime resident of Mayes County. He grew up and attended school in Big Cabin and after graduation he attended Northeastern State University and obtained a Degree of Accounting. In 1968 he joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served until 1971. He was a decorated combat infantryman and was very proud of his military service. On December 31, 1977 he married Geneva Backwater. Larry went to work for Air Products and worked as distribution coordinator for the company, working in Liberal, Kansas and Allentown, Pennsylvania.
He attended Life Changer Church in Claremore.
Larry enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. He also enjoyed watching television. He loved his family very much and spending time with them is what he loved the most. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva, of the home; four children, Darren Baker and Tina of Salina, Lisa Baker of Claremore, Lara Doerflinger and Dave of Poughkeepsie, New York and Brian Doerflinger and Shellie of Nashville; five grandchildren, Destinee Baker, Kayley Smith, Madison Doerflinger, Braden Doerflinger and Kylee Dunn; one great granddaughter Ryan Kammerzeil; his father J.R. "Jay" Doerflinger; one sister Virginia Selman; one uncle Bud Doerflinger and wife Cheryl and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rita "Pat" Doerflinger and two brothers, John and Leroy Doerflinger.
