Services honoring and celebrating the life of Mary Leota (Richardson) Grusendorf Ewing will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2017 at Claremore First Baptist Church. Pastor Keith Wiginton and Mary's son-in-law, Brother Sam Nichols will share words of comfort. Rice Funeral Service has been entrusted with Mary's care and family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 3-5 p.m.
Mary passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017. She was 89.
Mary was born on Oct. 21, 1927 in the Wichita Mountains near Cache, Okla. Her parents were John Wiley and Rowena Alice (Tugman) Richardson. Mary married Donald Grusendorf in a quiet justice of the peace ceremony in Lubbock.
Home for the couple was in Texas until 1986 when they moved to the retirement village of Bella Vista, Arkansas. What a joy it was to reside in Bella Vista. It was a favorite spot for grandchildren to visit.
When Mary was widowed in June of 1990 with Donald's sudden passing, she was grateful for her faith, her family and her work.
After seven years as a widow, Mary and John Ewing married in a Nov. 30, 1998 ceremony. Bella Vista remained home.
They began to travel the country together, an activity of pure joy for Mary. John passed away, but Mary remained in Bella Vista until 2012 when she moved to Claremore, Oklahoma to be near family.
Because of Mary's love of the Lord and of children, those who wish to honor her memory with a memorial gift, may make their check payable to Claremore First Baptist Church, 107 E. Will Rogers Blvd. Claremore 74017.
This gift will be used to support Emmanuel Home of Protection in Nicaragua.
Surviving family members include her daughters: Linda Nichols and husband Sam of Claremore; and Patricia Newton and husband Dennis of Bryan, Texas; her grandchildren: Tonya and Paul Norwood of Owasso, Jamie Newton of Arlington, Texas, Brian and Tiana Nichols of Claremore, Cory Newton of Osage City, Kansas, and Megan and Shane Edwards of Oologah; her great greandchildren: Braden and Caitlyn Norward, Kylie Newton, Tyler and Laynie Nichols, Cambry and Cale Edwards; and her brother John Richardson and wife LaNora.
