Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Whiteis will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor with burial to follow at Bryan Chapel Cemetery in Boatman. Brother Rick Nance will officiate. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care.
Mary Elizabeth Whiteis was born on June 13, 1926 to James and Laura (Pruett) Swearegin. She departed this life on December 22, 2016 in Salina at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 9 days.
Mary was a lifetime resident of the Salina Boatman area. She grew up and attended school at Chapel School in Boatman and also Salina school. On December 26, 1943 she married Chester Whiteis who preceded her in death in 1998 and from their union came nine children. She worked at the Parkhill Nursing Home in Salina for many years as a nurse aide.
She enjoyed puzzles and word games. Just recently she took up sewing and she loved it. She loved cooking big dinners and having family gatherings especially at Christmas time. The joy of her life were her kids and grandkids, she loved them very much.
She is survived by four sons, Chester Whiteis of Salina, Albert Whiteis of Salina, Harrison Whiteis and wife JoAnn of Chouteau and Billy Whiteis and wife Sherry of Collinsville; three daughters, Dorothy Smith and husband Tom of Pryor, Pam McKay and husband Andy of Pensacola and Johna Kay Gann and husband Clifford of Salina; son in law Vic Holleyman of Salina and daughter in law Rhonda Whiteis of Corsicana, TX and one sister, Tootsie of Lincoln, AR.
She is preceded in death by her husband Check; one daughter Marie Holleyman; one son Lonnie Whiteis; four brothers, Harm, Joe, James and Johnny and two sisters Margie and Rosie.
