Merle Kendall Akin passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Claremore Veterans Center. He was 89. Honoring Merle's wishes, no services are planned.
Born August 2, 1928 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Raymond Payton Akin, Sr. and Mabel (Olson) Akin, Merle received his education in Claremore. He enlisted with the US Navy and served his country during WWII. Merle married Dossie Dell Sixkiller on October 4, 1948; they recently celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Merle worked throughout his life as a plumber. He partnered with his brother for a time before going out on his own. When Merle was not working he enjoyed his lake house, fishing and boating and spending time with family and friends.
Those family members that survive include his wife Dossie of their home; his daughter Rhonda Wiley and husband Robert of Claremore; his grandchildren Brian Akin, Dylan McMeans and Heather Collins; several great grandchildren; his sister Martha Morrisett also of Claremore; his brothers Paul Akin of Overland Park, Kansas and Tom Akin of Glenpool. Merle was preceded in death by his parents, son Randall Keith Akin; siblings Raymond Akin, Jr., Margaret Crutchfield and Donald Akin.
