Myrtle's Story

Myrtle Vivian Blackwell was born July 25, 1921 in Pershing, Okla. to Andrew Jackson and Kitty Cordella (Kreager) Blackwell. She departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at the age of 95.

Myrtle graduated from Locust Grove High School in 1939. On July 15, 1939, in Murphy, Okla., Myrtle Vivian Blackwell and Clarence McClain Blackwell were united in marriage. Clarence preceded his wife in death on November 17, 2014. The couple had been married for 75 years, 4 months, and 3 days.

For the past 3 years, Myrtle has lived in Leonard, Okla.She moved there from Wagoner, where she had lived for over 10 years. She had also lived in Tulsa, Salina, California, and Texas.

Myrtle had been a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God church in Locust Grove. She had also been a part of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed fishing and traveling. Myrtle, along with Clarence, had traveled all over the United States and even into Canada.

Myrtle liked to crochet, quilt, and work puzzles. She was also an avid card player. She liked to play canasta, hand and foot, and spades. Myrtle was very competitive at playing dominoes. As well, she did not like to lose at scrabble. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved her family very much. She will be missed dearly.

Myrtle is survived by:4 daughters: Billie Crow and husband Gary of Wagoner, Jeanette Scott and husband Dan of Coweta, Sue Ford and husband Paul of Tulsa, and Ida Brown and husband Gary of Leonard, Okla.; 1 daughter-in-law: Sondia Blackwell of Locust Grove; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; an infant daughter: Joyce Ann; 1 son: Clarence "Mac" Blackwell; 5 sisters: Cassey Crupper, Agnes Redmond, Vernes Carter, Gertie Key, and Jane Shear.

Funeral services will be held 10A.M., Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow at the Haner-Adair Cemetery near Locust Grove Funeral Home. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
