Norma's Story

A funeral ceremony honoring and remembering the life of Norma Jean (Michelle) Koontz will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the Winganon Ketchum Cemetery in Chelsea. Rice Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family will receive visitors from 6-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Norma passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at in Inola. She was 69.
Born Dec. 2, 1947 in Claremore, Norma was the daughter of Lloyd Henry and Ellen Ida (Cochran) Koontz. Norma was raised in Claremore and graduated from Claremore High School in 1966, and attended Memorial Heights Baptist Church all through school. The first of her family to attend college she received an associate's degree from Phoenix, Arizona College. She belonged to the Alpha Kappa Tau Sorority. After college she began to work as an airline stewardess, a job she loved, and traveled all over the world. Norma also worked as a legal secretary for a number of years until she became ill and unable to work. Norma loved her family and even when she was unable to be near them she loved to be hear about what was going on in all of her cousins and extended family's lives.
Surviving family members include cousins: Roy Hancock of Claremore; Melinda Palmisano of Claremore and George Wofford of Claremore; one aunt: Bonnie Robinson of Claremore and many other relatives and a host of friends who loved Norma dearly.
