Services honoring and remembering the life of Phyllis Ann Kirk will be 3 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2017 at Cedar Point Church in Claremore. Visitation will be Thursday at Cedar Point Church, from 3-7 with family receiving visitors from 5-7. Phyllis passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. She was 77.
Born in Claremore, Okla. on December 18, 1939, Phyllis and her parents Mannie and Pearl (Smith) Bland called the Claremore community home their entire lives. Phyllis attended Sequoyah Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1958. Her work career as a credit and collections specialist was the perfect fit for her. As her family said, "She could definitely stand her ground." She worked in that position for many years at Denbo's Jewelry and then at Oklahoma Truck Supply in Tulsa. On Oct. 29, 1971 in a ceremony in Killeen, Texas, Phyllis married the love of her life, Billy Kirk.
Phyllis was an elegant lady who was always impeccably dressed when out in public. So it may come as a surprise to you that Phyllis was not only a little mischievous but even had a peculiar sense of humor according to her family. Phyllis loved her family and being with them. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She even found delight in the name "Granny Goose," which they affectionately called her. Phyllis had a wide array of interests and accomplishments but the one that she was most proud of was being an ordained minister. She received her certificate from Straight Gate Church. Phyllis enjoyed cross stitching, playing numerous musical instruments, and was a charter member of QVC. Oh, how she loved to shop!! Another part of Phyllis's life was her miniature poodle, Oreo. That little dog brought her countless hours of not only entertainment but enjoyment.
This wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be missed by all whose life she touched.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, of 45 years, Billy, children, Garey Bue and wife Dawn, Mannie Bue, Rusty Kirk and wife Deby, Bambi Ivy and husband Mike, daughter-in-law Christy Kirk, brother, Rick Bland and wife Cindy, sisters, Nancy Hoyt, Sandy Martin, and Carmalita Bland, grandchildren, Rebecca Fox, Amber Bue, Erin Bue, Jason Bue, Rachel Dotson, Natasha Bue, Savannah Bue, Casey Roberts, Nathan, Andy, and Kelley Kirk, Josh, and James Lunsford, 14 great grandchildren, and very special friend, Rose Ann Ranson. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Michael Kirk, brother, N.R. Bland, and sister, Joyce Kay.
