Tempa's Story

Services honoring and remembering the life of Tempa Nanette Bentley will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. A committal ceremony will follow in the mausoleum at Oakhaven Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Tempa passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 at her home in Claremore. She was 73.
Born April 14, 1944 in Arizona, Tempa was the daughter of Charles Edgar and Doris Mae (Banning) Sindar. She grew up in the San Diego area in the community of Lomita Village. Tempa spent each summer with her grandmother, whom she called "Mama."
She married Vernon Bentley on Dec. 12, 1964 at her grandmother's home near Los Angeles. Tempa met Vernon when she was in the fourth grade.
Their family moved to Claremore on July 4, 1977. Tempa was known to be a very compassionate and loving mother to her children and family. In addition to raising her family, Tempa was a sales associate with her husband's Allstate Insurance Agency. Tempa also co-owned an antique store in downtown Claremore called "Shadows of Time" along with her friend, Linda Barrett.
Tempa always enjoyed shopping. She also loved gardening, regularly decorating her patios with the most beautiful potted plants and flowers. Tempa was also a prolific reader. She loved biographies, historical novels, and any literature about U.S. presidents and their wives. She enjoyed going on cruises with her husband and friends where she enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing different cultures.
Surviving family include her husband, Vernon of the home; her children: Ronda Watrous (Frank) of Claremore, and Tommy Bentley of Spavinaw; her granddaughter, Miranda Talbert (Chase) of Edmond; her sister, Virginia Lee Sindar of Texas; and her brother, Claude Sindar of Claremore; her nieces: Karen Tucker and Karlyn Gomez of Texas, and Denise Tojeira of New Jersey; and her nephew, Kristopher Sindar of California. Tempa was preceded in death by her parents.
