Wilma's Story

Text size

Tootie blessed us with many valuable lessons during her 82 years. Wilma C. (Glover) Daniel was born on August 11, 1934, in Claremore, Okla.
She graduated from Claremore High School in 1953 and then Draughons Business College.
Wilma married her "knight in shining white armor," D. Gene Daniel, on August 24, 1955. During those early years, she put Gene through his final two years of school at Oklahoma A&M and continued to support his career by doing the accounting and managing the office for his business for close to 20 years.
While raising their three children in Fort Smith, Ark; she planned family vacations to every nook and corner of the continental U.S.
Every summer the family packed up the station wagon and hit the road to explore America.
She took in every stray cat, dog and friend. A woman of strong convictions, she was compassionate and quick with a witty reply. Wilma loved to paint, had a green thumb, beauty shop appointments were sacrosanct and she adored outings with her friends - many of whom she knew since high school.
She took great delight in the accomplishments of her seven grandchildren, and was a cheerleader when things didn't go as they planned.
She is survived by her husband D. Gene Daniel; children and grandchildren: Dana (wife Marilyn, children Kendall and Trenton); Ginger (husband Mike Homan, children Ryan and his wife Kacy, Meghan and Nathan) and Lance (wife Jacqueline, children Augie and Atticus), niece Lynda Glover and many friends and lovely neighbors.
A woman of faith, she was reunited with her mother, Mary Glover; sister, Norma Jean Hickox; and brother, Willard Glover and his wife Betty; along with other family members and her best friend Margaret Ann (Akins) Crutchfield on April 25, 2017, in Tulsa, Okla.
She will be waiting at the South Gate for her beloved Gene. She is missed and loved.
In lieu of flowers, the Daniel family asks that donations be made to the Porta Caeli House, P.O. Box 580460, Tulsa, Okla. 74158-0460. The family thanks the incredible staff of Porta Caeli for their loving care and compassion while taking care of Wilma.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 27, from 5-7 p.m. at Rice Funeral Home in Claremore, Okla., 631 E. Will Rogers Blvd.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore.
