Chester's Story

Funeral services for Chester Thompson, 88, of Pryor will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:00 at the Church of Christ in Pryor with burial to follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery. Brothers D.J. Castoe and Tom Coats will officiate. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care.
Chester Thompson was born on February 13, 1928 in Oil Springs, Oklahoma to Arthur and Edith (Coldwell) Thompson. He departed this life on October 18, 2016 at the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 5 days.
He was raised in the Dog Holler area of Cherokee County and graduated from Bagley High School. He lived in the Pryor area since the early 50's. He was married to Betty Jean Thompson for fifty six years at the time of her death on January 21, 2005 and from their union came three children, Sandi, Brenda, and Doug. On October 17, 2006 he married JoReta Ramsey and from that union came three additional children, Renita, Judy, and Lorrie. Chester was a paper maker at National Gypsum where he retired.
He enjoyed working on his farm and raising cattle. He loved nature and enjoyed being outside hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved family gatherings and his greatest joy was spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He attended the Church of Christ in Pryor.
He is survived by his wife, JoReta Ramsey-Thompson, of the home; five daughters, Sandi Freeman and husband John of Tahlequah, Brenda Coats and husband Tom of Pryor, Renita Moore and husband Roger of Pryor, Judy Gist-Coppedge and husband Craig of Pryor, and Lorrie Ramsey of Pryor; one son, Doug Thompson and wife Debbie of Ft Gibson; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Muriel Katakozinos of Muskogee and Gladys Lawson of Tulsa; several nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edith; his first wife, Betty Jean Thompson; one grandson, Steven Thompson; and one son, Johnny Ramsey.
