Franklin's Story

Franklin H. "Frank" Plett, 89, Chouteau, died Feb. 8, 2016. Plett was a retired pattern maker at J.I. Case. Service are Friday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Claremore . Interment to follow in Eden Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 11 at Stephens-Key Chapel from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral & Cremation Care in Pryor. Franklin H. Plett was one of 12 children, born on April 14, 1926 in Lehigh, Kan. to Frank E. and Anna (Harder) Plett. He died on Feb. 8, in Owasso. He was married to Betty Jean Enns on Nov. 25, 1949 in Inola and they moved to California where they lived for a short time then they moved to Chouteau in 1949. He worked as a pattern maker for J.I. Case for many years, retiring in 1991 and also worked for Spartan for several years. He was a member of the International Union of Machinists. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and ran a saw sharpening shop out of his barn. He made numerous wooden items for his children and grandchildren. He also hunted, fished, played dominoes and collected Case model tractors and was a fan of watching pro-wrestling on television. He was an avid family man and there was no greater joy to him than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved watching his grandkids in all of their sporting activities; he will be greatly missed by them all. Plett was a longtime member of the Eden Mennonite Church in Inola. He is survived by his four children, Robert Plett and wife Cheryl of Mannford, Frankye Needham and husband Tom of Owasso, Benny Plett and wife Mary Kilgore of Ft. Worth and Jeanette Vrska and husband Randy of Claremore; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one sister Viola Garrison and husband Bill of Atwater, California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Donna Plett and Deloris Plett both of Atwater, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty in February of 2015 and 10 brothers and sisters.
