Services to honor and celebrate the life of John Cope will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at Rice Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Wofford Cemetery, Catoosa. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Rice Funeral Service. He passed away Feb. 16, 2016 at his home at the age of 82. John Cope was born September 26, 1933 in Garden City, Oklahoma to Joseph Russel Cope and Alpha Mae (Lovett) Cope. Upon his high school graduation he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict. After serving in the Navy, he went to work for Texaco Refinery then later Sinclair Refinery where he retired in 1997. In 1991 he married Charlotte Baker Nees in Arkansas. He enjoyed hunting, doing yard work, playing golf and fishing. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Mexico and taking family vacations. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Baker Nees of the home; daughters, Pam Kennemer and husband, Dennis of Sand Springs and Johna Bertelli and husband, Brett of Plano, Texas; stepsons, Don Nees and wife, Kathy, Randy Nees and wife, Lori, Robbie Nees and wife, Kacee, and Rodney Nees all of Claremore; sister, Joyce Runyon of Oologah; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Karen Parker; and sisters, Betty Jo Cope Moffett and Colleen Cope Huntsman.
