Juanita's Story

Text size

Private family services honoring and celebrating the life of Juanita J. Ferrell were held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Wards Grove Cemetery, under the direction of DeLozier Funeral Service. Juanita passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 after a long period of illness. She was 72. Born in Stillwater, Okla. on Dec. 10, 1943 to Eugene and Clemine (Tinney) Scott. Juanita was raised and educated in Cushing, Okla. This is where she met the love of her life, Rolland Ferrell. On April 12, 1978 the couple married in Orez, Mexico. About a year later they moved to the Foyil area, the community Juanita called home for the rest of her life. Juanita excelled at being a wife and mother and nanny, but even with those responsibilities she still wanted to provide more for her family. She achieved that by owning and operating Juanita’s Hamburgers in Foyil. She sponsored the Foyil High School football and baseball teams a few years, making sure they had their pasta before their games. She was for the most part a very private person but she so loved serving and making her customers happy. This had always been her lifelong dream. Her family said that even today, people still come up to them and boast about how good Juanita’s hamburgers were. She worked hard alongside her husband to provide for their family from working for the Corps of Engineers mowing around area lakes from here to Texas to grabbing her chainsaw and cutting wood, sometimes covered in ice, to provide for her family. She used her business and all of these things as teaching tools to her children, instilling in them a strong work ethic and that hard work does pay off. Even though there never seemed to be enough hours in a day, Juanita still found a way for her many other interests. She loved the outdoors and had a little bit of a green thumb, raising decorative gourds, and everyone’s favorite home grown tomatoes. Her flowerbeds also brought her much enjoyment and she was so very proud of all of her flower gardens she had. The family even said she taught her granddaughter how to talk with the snap dragons. If you ever got the opportunity to be inside her home it wouldn’t take you long to figure out Juanita also enjoyed collecting dolls, angels, unicorns, dishes and jewelry. Also if you listened closely you might hear an Elvis Presley song playing. She sure loved his music according to her family. This wife, mother, nanny and friend will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Juanita is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Rolland, children Monica Bingham and husband Randy, Dorthy Simerly, Joy Weaver and husband Ed, Steve Simerly and wife Carmen, Selina Meyer and husband Mark, Lynn Ferrell and wife Sissy, 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and two sisters. She was proceeded in death by her parents, beloved son, John “Butch” Simerly, three brothers and two sisters. The last 21 precious days of Juanita’s life, her husband and daughters Joy and Monica and granddaughter Misty were able to care for her at home and would like to give a heartfelt Thank You to St John’s Hospice in Tulsa for their guidance and care in making that possible. Also Randi, her aid, for always helping make her feel better. Please view and sign Juanita’s online tribute at www.delozierfuneralservice.com.
