Lewis's Story

Memorial services for Lewis "Bud" Cunningham, 81, of Rose will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Stephens-Key Chapel in Pryor. George Littledave will officiate. Services are entrusted to Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care.
Lewis "Bud" Cunningham was born on November 9, 1935 to Elmer Lewis Sr. and Frances (Cass) Cunningham in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He departed this life on February 26, 2017 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 17 days.
Bud grew up and attended school in Pryor and graduated from Pryor High School in 1953. In 1958 he joined the United States Air Force and served until 1964. In 1959 he married Norma Gail Self and from their union came five children. He lived in Pryor for many years and then moved to Rose in 1979. He was a hard worker, he owned and operated his own appliance repair shop for several years and he knew everybody in the country. He was a very community oriented both in Pryor and Rose. He served on school boards, city council and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was also the Fire Chief of Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department for several years.
Bud loved going shooting, helping on the farm and listening to old music. He also loved history, mainly WWII history. He was a devoted husband and family man; he loved his kids and grandkids more than anything and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his five children, Vickie Burroughs and husband David of Arkansas City, Kansas, Rex Cunningham and wife Susan of Benbrook, Texas, Jack Cunningham and wife Tammy of Locust Grove, Keith Cunningham and wife Robin of Rose and Kurt Cunningham of Colorado Springs; ten grandchildren, Erin, Blake, Dylan and wife Baleigh, Rachel, Nathan, Jake, Katie, Max, Audra and Wade; two sisters Carole Presley and husband John of Tahlequah and Nancy Couch and husband Tommy of Pryor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma Gail, and one grandson Derek Burroughs.
