Memorial services for Melba Florence Cousins, 79, of Big Cabin will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Pastors Scott Worley and Max Adams will officiate. Cremation arrangements are being made with Stephens-Key Funeral and Cremation Care.
Melba Florence Cousins was born on August 6, 1937 to Thurston Dean and Anna Grace (Newman) Reeves in Arkansas City, KS. She passed away on December 26, 2016 at her home in Big Cabin at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 20 days.
Melba grew up and attended school in Arkansas City, Kansas and was the senior class president of her graduating class. She was also a member of the High School Girl State, Usherettes and the Musical Mikaddo. On August 1, 1954 she married Lloyd Lee Bley, who preceded her in death in 1975, and from their union came four children. Melba worked in the home, as well as, on the farm. She also drove a school bus and made and decorated cakes. On May 1, 1980 she married Buck Cousins and he also preceded her in death.
Music was a big part of her life, her mother taught her to the play the piano, organ and accordion. She played for weddings and always sang in church. She attended and was very active at Clayton Christian Church in Deerfield, MO and United Methodist Church in Bixby and Big Cabin. She was a special lady to all her knew her and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Randy and Karen Bley, Tina and Dale Moore, Chuck and Shawnna Bley, Greg and Robyn Bley, Alma and Warren Jones and Roger Cousins; fourteen grandchildren and her great grandchildren; and two brothers Richard Reeves and Michael Reeves.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thurston and Anna and both husbands.
