Patricia's Story

Text size

Family and friends gathered at Sageeyah Baptist Church Saturday morning, June 18, 2016 to celebrate the life of Patricia Louella Ulmer.
She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery beside her husband John Robert Ulmer, Jr. who passed away March 9, 2015.
Rice Funeral Service was entrusted with Patricia's care.
Patricia passed away on June 14, 2016 just days before her 74th birthday, after a challenging battle with cancer.
She was born June 24, 1942 in Vinita, Oklahoma one of Harold George and Mary Louella (Griffith) Vaughn's six treasured children.
Patricia was brought up with strong Christian principles that kept her life grounded through the journey of life that brought both significant challenges and abundant joys.
Though home began in Vinita, most of Pat's youth and young adult life was spent in Colorado.
Following her high school graduation, she married and became a proud and devoted mother to her three daughters. Home for the family was in Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma, with most of Pat's girls' childhood days spent in Claremore.
After a time of being single, Patricia met John Ulmer, Jr. in a singles group at First Baptist Church Claremore. Their first date was attending a revival in Vinita with Brother Claud Strong.
It seems Pastor Strong has been the couple's pastor for almost all their lives early years in Vinita and recent years at Sageeyah Baptist Church. Patricia and John began their lives together on April 8, 1983 in Vinita.
Their vows were right out of the scriptures, offering the solid foundation they desired for their marriage.
As grandchildren enriched her life, Patricia was devoted to all their important activities.
She was truly their most enthusiastic cheerleader. With her musical gifts, Patricia rejoiced when finally great grandson, Paxton showed similar talents. It was among her greatest joys to teach this young man new tunes on the piano.
Patricia adored children, when she was able to combine her love of little ones with her love of music she was at her best.
There was a time when she volunteered with church ministry. She took her accordion and played and sang during the trip to Sunday school. She also played the violin. And certainly the piano was her favorite instrument from childhood and throughout her lifetime.
The heritage of faith and family will remain a strong legacy in the generations that are left behind with Patricia's passing.
Those family members who survive are two of her three daughters, Melanie Hughes and Arnold, Orlando, FL. And Mary Wood and Daniel, Claremore; son-in-law James Sutton, Claremore; eight grandchildren, Michael Carlson, Megan Reed and Garrett, Daniel Wood and Laura, Shelby Sutton, Kelsey Carlson, Logan McQuaig, Jaly Sutton and Kutter Sutton; four greatgrandchildren, Machayla, Mason, Paxton and Lakyn and four of her siblings, George Vaughn and Deanie, Donald Vaughn and Nancy, David Vaughn and Vicky and Sharon Kisby and Jim.
She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, little brother Jack Vaughn, husband John, daughter Marcy Sutton and great granddaughter Macy Carlson.
