Richard Carlyle Small was born June 7, 1944 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Carl and Pauline (Powelson) Small. He died on Saturday, February 13, at the age of 71 years. He moved to Tulsa with his family in 1950, at the age of six years old. He graduated from East Central High school in 1963. He moved to Watuaga, Texas in 1990. He then moved back to Tulsa in December of 2015. He was a dedicated worker, having been an employee of American Airlines for over 42 years. He started out in the mailroom, working his way up to the stock room. He then entered the junior mechanic program. Richard worked to become licensed in air frame and power plant operations. When he retired in 2008, he was a crew chief. He loved to watch movies and television shows. He was a talented woodworker having made different things from shelves to key holders. He also enjoyed collecting guns and knives. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Richard is survived by one daughter, Danielle Small and Brian Russell of Locust Grove; two grandsons: Dakota Day of Pryor, and Wyatt Day of Locust Grove; one sister, Pat Hite of Tulsa; Ex-wife and close friend: Janis Price of Pryor; one niece, Paula Tucker and husband Devon of Collinsville; one nephew: D.J. Hite and wife Krista of Collinsville; Close friends: Mark and Norma Mobley of Port Charlotte, Florida; a cousin that was more like a brother: James Powelson of Ponca City; Other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother-in-law: Danny Hite; and one son: Darrell Small. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, at the Gathering of Believers Church near Adair. Brother Josh Greer will officiate.
