A funeral ceremony honoring and remembering Solon Wright III will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore. A private inurnment will take place later in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Solon passed away Sunday morning, July 30, 2017 at his home in Claremore at the age of 69.
Born Dec. 10, 1947, in Tulsa, Solon was the son of Solon Wright, Jr. and Catherine Rosine (Saxe) Wright. Solon was raised in Tulsa, and graduated from Edison High School, where he played football and baseball. He also participated in the Glee club in high school, pressured into it by the teacher, because he had such a low voice. On July 11, 1966 he began dating the love of his life, Suzanne Kifer and on September 14, 1968 they were married at a ceremony at the Methodist Church in Sand Springs. They "stuck together" through good times and bad, and were each other's "One and Only" for 49 years. 51 years after they began dating, to the day, they found out together he would be fighting Stage IV cancer.
He was a racing fan. He and his family went to NASCAR and NHRA races all over the united states. He and his wife both drag raced themselves when they were younger, first racing a 1969 Dodge Dart. They later owned a sprint car and enjoyed racing it at the old race track in Tulsa before it was revised into a horse track.
Solon was a Quality Control Manager at Accurate Manufacturing and Professional Fabricators. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, and was very proud of his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by parents: Solon Wright Jr., and Catherine Rosine (Saxe) Wright; his father-in-law: Gerald Kifer; and his grandmother: Catherine Saxe.
He is survived by his wife: Suzanne Wright of Claremore; daughters: Stephanie Dary and her husband Mike of Claremore, Shay Wright of Claremore; grandchildren: Jaiden Wright, Sawyer Wright, Bethany Kirkpatrick and her husband Trent, and Jacob Dary; one sister: Cathie Harris of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law: Debbie Sears and her husband, Clay of Bentonville, Ark.; mother-in-law: Pauline Kifer of Sand Springs, Okla.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
