Services honoring and remembering the life of Sue Tacker McKnight will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 in the chapel at DeLozier Funeral Service, Chelsea.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore. Sue passed away at her home, surround by her family, on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017. She was 83.
The youngest and last surviving child of Wilson Riley and Blanche (Parker) Tacker, Sue was raised in Verdigris and attended both Verdigris and Claremore Public Schools.
She graduated from Claremore High School with the Class of 1951.
Sue began her work career as a secretary at Sinclair Gas Company in Tulsa.
It was there, she caught the eye of Paul McKnight. After their first date of water skiing, one might say, the rest is history.
The couple married at the First Presbyterian Church in Claremore on Oct. 11, 1958. Their union was blessed with two children, Lisa Blanche and Brendan Paul.
Sue also had a career with OSU college of Osteopathic Medicine; where she was the first person hired by the President. Sue was instrumental in getting this college established in Tulsa and retired as their personnel director after twenty five years.
As with everything she did, Sue excelled at being a wife and mother.
She was actively involved in the Rogers County 4-H Club with her children; where she would organize horse shows and clinics. Weekends were spent traveling to horse shows and trying to capture that blue ribbon. Sue loved the outside and working in her yard.
She planted a huge garden, trees, and flowers. It was said by family, it had to be done just right. It should be no surprise to anyone that Sue was recognized as a "Master Gardner" and was very active in the Tulsa group.
A private and very independent person, Sue was always participating and always doing.
She loved to care for others and was part of the Helping Hands Ministry at the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa.
She was an avid caregiver for her sister, Ann, when her health failed. It was Sue's way of showing her love to others.
She enjoyed to cook and the annual brother sister dinner she hosted, was again Sue's way of just letting them know how much she loved them.
In later life and after retirement when most people slow down, Sue went back to college.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2000 from the University of Oklahoma. Sue began to train and run 5k marathons to show her support for breast cancer awareness and for pleasure.
Family said, she even traveled to Greece where she participated in a 5k at the age of 75 and won first place in her age group. Traveling with family brought Sue much pleasure, especially trips with her husband Paul.
This wife, mother, grandmother, and friend will be missed by all whose life she touched.
Sue is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul, children, Lisa Blanche McKnight and spouse Jan Reid, Brendan Paul McKnight and wife Jennifer, grandchildren, Gillian Rae and Gavin Paul McKnight, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Melinda, sisters, Aline Hicks, Mildred Mullinax, Lois Collins, and Anne Wallis, brothers, Quentin Tacker, William Tacker, and Robert Tacker.
