Vance Gordon Massey Sr. passed from this life on Friday, March 10, 2017 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
Vance was born in Plainview, Texas on October 14, 1940 and lived there until his early teen years when the family relocated to Tulsa, OK in 1954.
Vance graduated from Central High School in 1959 and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War from 1960 until 1962. He returned on leave in 1961 to marry his high school sweetheart Ronnamae Clark on June 5. They were married for thirty six years and had two children, Gordon and Judee.
On April 10, 1998, Vance married Nancy Riggsbee Southerland and they remained married until his death.
Vance was employed at Crane Carrier in Tulsa, Okla. for forty years as a Quality Control Inspector until his retirement in April 2005. He made many friends there and has kept in touch with them after his retirement.
Vance was preceded in death by his parents Vester Gordon Massey and Guarrell Dee Massey and his first wife and mother of his children Ronnamae Clark Massey.
Vance is survived by his sisters Vela Beth Young of Apache Junction, Arizona and Arleta Kay Lewis of Bryson, Texas; son Vance Gordon Massey Jr. and wife Denise of Claremore, Okla., daughter Judee Ann Massey Hardison and husband David of Collinsville, Okla.; stepsons David Alan Southerland and wife Kerry of Savannah, Ga. and William Gary Southerland and wife Crystie of Lawrenceville, Ga.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Heather Jo Massey of Carlsbad, Calif., Taylor Nicole Hardison and Travis Wade Hardison of Collinsville, Okla.; step grandchildren Jason Alan Southerland of Alexandria, Va., Christopher James Southerland of Savannah, Ga., William Cruz Southerland and Victoria Taylor Southerland of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Vance loved his family, his country, OU football, NASCAR, a beautiful truck, and country music. He was very grateful that he had the opportunity to retire in good health and enjoy the remainder of his life. At the time of his illness and death he was looking forward to the marriage on April 1, 2017 of his granddaughter Heather Jo Massey to Captain Joe Radloff of the United States Marine Corps. He was also eagerly awaiting the High School Graduation of granddaughter Taylor Nicole Hardison this May.
He was dearly loved by many and will be sorely missed by all.
