Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Rice Funeral Service. Mrs. McMillan passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 in Claremore. She was 81.
Virginia Maxine Willcox was born July 4, 1935 in rural Osage County, near Hominy, Okla., to Alvie Charles and Lillian Allien (Davis) Willcox. She attended school in Hallett, OK where she lettered in basketball. Virginia married her high school sweetheart, Charles (Gene) McMillan, on Dec. 23, 1953 in Payne County while he was home from the U.S. Army on Christmas leave. The couple made their first home at Ft. Eustis, VA later returning to Oklahoma where they would establish a home in the Claremore community.
Active in the Claremore Assembly of God, Virginia devoted her time and used her gifts as she volunteered in the nursery. Outside of the church and of her devotion as loving wife and mother, she also found enjoyment participating in various arts and crafts classes and projects, such as ceramics and painting.
A woman who truly knew how to make any occasion special, Virginia was known to dress to the hilt and to accessorize with just the perfect hat to be a hit. The only thing to rival her sense of style and charisma were her decorations that adorned any family event or holiday gathering, making each cherished time with family virtually unforgettable. Virginia never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. She also loved traveling and camping and she was quite the outstanding fisherman — although she never entirely got around to acquiring a taste for seafood.
A loving wife, mother and child of God, Virginia will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She leaves to honor her memory, her loving husband of nearly 63 years, Charles (Gene) McMillan of the home; her children: son, Steve McMillan and wife, Sharon of Claremore, daughter, Sheri Cobern and husband, Tim of Canton, Texas; grandchildren: Jeremy "Mac" McMillan and wife, Tara of Verdigris, Kelsey Willhite and husband, Jeff of Pryor, Matthew Cobern, Michelle Allen and husband, Kyle all of Canton, Texas, Casie Cobern of Tyler, Texas and Brandy Whittington of Teague, Texas. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Newman of Hereford, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters: Arletta Henderson and Roberta Johns and a brother, Richard Willcox.
