Bessie Bell Hermon Obituary

Bessie Bell (Smith) Hermon was born to Carl and Grace Smith on January 16, 1929 in Jetmore, Kansas and died October 8th, 2023 in Owasso, Oklahoma.

Bess grew up on a Kansas Hereford ranch with her parents, three brothers, and one sister. This is where she learned to sew, cook, keep house, milk cows, drive a tractor, ride a horse, and most importantly raise a Christian family. She was a high school cheerleader for four years and was known to love to dance and enjoy life.

Bess met the love of her life, Charlie Hermon, when she started high school, and they began dating at 15 years of age. Charlie even joined the cheerleading squad to be close to Bess. They married shortly after high school and enjoyed 75 years of marriage. She always said, "We've been to a lot of places and done a lot of things," and "We've had a lot of fun."

Bess was a do-er. She was always ready to help her children, the church, or her friends with whatever they needed. She didn't sleep very much, and she could always outwork anyone. She was chosen as the Rogers County homemaker of the year. She loved to garden and can, and even when she downsized her garden in later years, she raised an abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers. She was known for her home-baked bread, pies, and homemade vanilla ice cream. Bess was a skilled seamstress. She made her own wedding dress at nineteen, and that was only the beginning. If it was made of fabric, she could create it. She played the piano all her life and even in the depths of her disease, she would play portions of Star of the East if she walked by a piano. Charlie and Bess loved to travel and took many cruises. After their retirement, they traveled the United States. She loved hiking in the Colorado mountains, and for more than 20 years, they spent the month of August in Copper Mountain, Colorado.

Bess is survived by her loving husband Charlie, four daughters and three son-in laws, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
