With profound sadness we announce the passing of Brenda Kay, our loving and devoted wife, momma, "Grandma Brenna" and friend to all whose lives she touched.
Brenda was born on October 2, 1950 in the Franklin Hospital in Claremore, Oklahoma to Richard Gene Nees and Bessie Beatrice Simpkins Nees. She was the only sister to Rick and Gary Nees. She grew up in Claremore and Inola, lived a few years in California, and finally moved back to Claremore, where she was the popular "blonde haired, blue-eyed" Zebra cheerleader and member of the class of 1968.
After high school, she met and married Danny Rhine and they soon had two daughters, Lisa and Wendi. They built a house in the Sequoyah area and her girls grew up and attended Sequoyah Schools. Brenda loved being a homemaker and her children's happiness was the most important thing in her life.
Brenda loved to travel, and she and the girls took many RV trips with her parents to Galveston, Yellowstone, Oregon, California (had to take the girls to Redwood National Park and Disneyland!), the Grand Canyon, and eventually, Las Vegas. Every RV trip somehow ended up in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also loved to travel with her friend, Joyce, and they would take their girls to Branson on "girls' trips" almost every summer when the kids were little.
Later in life, she worked in the health care industry, eventually becoming the office manager for Dr. Ronald Hicks. Brenda also went to real estate school and became a realtor and was a top producer in Claremore. When her grandkids were born, she loved to shower them with gifts. Needless to say, she loved to shop and buy things for her loved ones, and that trait carried on until the end of her life.
She began dating Rex Fry in 2009 and in 2013, they married. She and Rex spent 11 happy years together in Claremore and traveled to many places, including Niagara Falls and Alaska. They also enjoyed just being together, loving, laughing, and watching the birds and squirrels play right outside of the kitchen window of the home they made together.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Rex Fry; her daughters, Lisa McCurdy (Eric), and Wendi Holderfield (Dwayne); grandchildren, Tyler McCurdy (Shelby) and Sarah Hoch (Quinlan); great grandchildren, Jaxon & Emma McCurdy, and Danielle, Matthew, Isabel, QJ and Emma Hoch; stepdaughters, Lesley Thomas (Nathan), Lisa Sixkiller (Bryan), and Tana Fry, and their families.
A service to celebrate Brenda's life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Verdigris United Methodist Church in Verdigris, Oklahoma, under the direction of Rice Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2024 at Rice Funeral Home, with the family being present from 5:00 to 7:00.
