Events

A memorial service celebrating and remembering the life of Connie C. Wright will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Central Christian Church in Claremore. Connie passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 in Tulsa. She was 81. The family has entrusted DeLozier Funeral Service, Chelsea with Connie's care.

Born in Fredonia, Kansas on January 26, 1938 to Eaton and Octavia (Miller) York, Connie was raised and educated in the Claremore area. She attended elementary school in Sageeyah and graduated from Claremore High School. In 1955 Connie married the father of her children, Estill DeWitt Jr. They had two children, Kelli and Rick. In 1968 in Claremore, OK, Connie married, Joe Wright, and they made their home in Claremore. Connie worked for the First National Bank in Claremore and retired from McDonnell Douglas as an accounting clerk.

A lady that enjoyed life, family, and her church family, Connie had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was actively involved in her church and served as treasurer. When the original public swimming pool opened in Claremore, Connie at 16 years of age, was voted queen of the swimming pool. Connie lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling with family to Tortola BVI, cruises, or bus trips with her sister, Paulyne. Her family said that she was an excellent cook and she was known for her meat loaf and hot water cornbread. Thanksgiving was a time for Connie to really show her talents and she never disappointed. Dressing, pecan pie, mashed potatoes and gravy were just a few of her family's favorites.

Connie and her family are rich in the Cherokee Indian Hertiage and her legacy will live on through the lives of her family and friends. Connie is survived by her children, Kelli DeWitt-Whitehead and husband Darryl, Rick DeWitt and wife Tonya, grandchildren, Chelsea McCool, Brett Whitehead and wife Katrina, and Taylor Whitehead, Evan DeWitt, Branson DeWitt, and Janice DeWitt, great grandchildren, Sam, Ethan, Joe, Marshall and one on the way, brother, Marvin York, and a host of nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, grandson, Nathan DeWitt, brother, George York, sisters, Paulyne Vanzant, Katie Kirkley, and Mildred Hanes.
