Gary Mills Johnson Obituary

Gary Mills Johnson was born November 26, 1938, and passed away October 30, 2023 at 84 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mills and Nell Johnson, and his sister Linda Huey and brother Steve Johnson.

In 1954 his family moved to Pryor, Oklahoma where he graduated from Pryor High School. There he participated in football and track and field.

Gary received his undergraduate and masters degrees in Psychology from the University of Tulsa. After working a few years in the field, he received his Ph.D. from Mississippi State University and retired as a school psychologist for the Tulsa Public Schools.

Gary was a member of Claremore First Methodist Church where he led a poetry group and enjoyed discussions with the Bible study group. The science of dreams fascinated him, and he loved to try and interpret the meanings of dreams for self discovery. Naturally, reading and writing poetry was an outlet for this. He was always a good listener and interested in each family member and their well being.

He loved talking about his spiritual journey with God, and understood the importance of "stillness" before the Lord. His last words were, "I'm going to Jerusalem."

Gary is survived by his sister-in-law, Jodye Johnson, and his five nieces and nephews: Susan Hutchins, Paul Huey, Derek Johnson, Jill Jordan, and Stephanie Johnson, and his ten great nieces and nephews and thirteen great-great nieces and nephews.
