Jim Hancock of Claremore, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in bed on March 27, 2024. He was born on October 3, 1927 and raised on a farm in Lee County, Iowa. He was taught to work hard and persevere no matter what life threw at him. Jim met Doris Guess at Argyle High school and they married on December 21, 1947. They celebrated over 75 years of marriage before she passed away.
Jim joined his brother, Gene, working for Mobil Oil Company as it was tough making a living on a farm following the depression. Jim and Doris made many stops along the way living the oilfield life. Their six children's births were a big part of that journey. Jim proudly served as the union representative for his peers and the company. Once he retired, Jim and Doris moved back to Oklahoma and settled in Claremore. One of the things that brought them both a lot of joy was taking their RV camper on trips to visit family or to join others in the Good Sam RV club. On those trips, playing cards and dominoes, dancing and listening to music were at the top of their lists. They belonged to Claremore First United Methodist Church and specifically enjoyed their Sunday School class. They also helped with Volunteers in Mission (VIM) with the United Methodist Church. While in Texas, they volunteered with Meals on Wheels and also with foster children advocacy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Bryan Hancock, and his mother in law, Georgia Guess.
He is survived by his six children: Kent and Betty Hancock of Cushing, OK; Kathy and Jimmie Dunlap of Bellingham, WA; Michael Hancock of New York City, New York; Chris and Liz Hancock of Dripping Springs, TX; Danny and Holly Hancock of Fort Worth, TX and Steve and Jennifer Hancock of Claremore, OK. His grandchildren are: Becky Hancock and Helen Elliott from Dripping Springs, TX; Jamie Hancock of Santa Cruz, CA; Megan Ballew of Bellingham, WA; Taylor Hancock of Nashville, TN; Cameron Hancock of Arlington, VA; Claire Hancock of Dripping Springs, TX; Benjamin Cody Hancock and wife, Bree of Fort Worth, TX; Brook Easton and husband, Jason of Claremore, OK; Beau Hancock and Stephen Cai from Philadelphia, PA. Owen Easton, Jackson Ballew, Lucy Ballew, and Emma Easton are their great grandchildren.
A private family gathering will be held. Memorials to Jim can be made to Meals on Wheels - Claremore at 715 McClellan Ave., Claremore, OK 74017.
