Jim Adkison Obituary
Claremore - Jim Adkison was born in Brinkley, Arkansas, on November 30, 1938. At 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served from 1956 to 1962. He later worked as a Harris County, Texas, deputy sheriff and air traffic controller, serving as parade-side security for President John F. Kennedy. After transferring to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, he earned his pilot's license and met the love of his life, beginning a 60-year marriage. Following a 31-year career as an air traffic controller, he owned International Tours Travel Agency in Claremore for eight years and later worked as a flood insurance adjuster with Sweet Claims Service.
Jim loved fast cars, motorcycles, flying, golf, hunting, fishing, and NASCAR. He was a proud member of the Claremore Elks Lodge and a faithful member of Claremore First Methodist Church, where he generously gave his time in service to others. Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His granddaughter, Morgan, was the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Galyn Adkison, who passed away in infancy; his parents, Bill and Pauline Adkison; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jack Sanders; sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Gene Grigsby; and brother, George Adkison.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bobbi Adkison; son Jim (Melissa); daughter Jacquelyn (Michael); granddaughter Morgan; sister Nancy Campbell; brother Larry Adkison (Vivian); sister-in-law Marlene Adkison; and many cherished extended family members and dear friends.
Throughout his life, Jim was guided by a spirit of service, whether serving his country, helping others, or caring for those he loved. Known for his warm smile and friendly spirit, he never met a stranger and treasured time with family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace with his Lord. His kindness, laughter, faith, and love will remain a lasting legacy for all who knew him.
