Judy Lee Stone Obituary

Claremore - A graveside service to celebrate and remember the life of Judy Lee Stone will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Washington Cemetery in Claremore. Judy passed away in Claremore on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. She was 85 years old.

Born in Gilbert, Arkansas to William L. and Florene (Bushman) Barnes. Judy spent much of her younger years in the Foyil area and graduated from Foyil High School. On November 22, 1956, in Claremore, OK, Judy married the love of her life Balford Stone. Their marriage lasted for over 35 years until his death on May 13, 1992.

The new couple moved into their first home together and even though it didn't have indoor plumbing for several years, and baths were outside in a huge metal tub; they couldn't have been happier. They began to raise cattle, planted a huge orchard and Judy became known around the area as a knowledgeable hog farmer. They planted a huge garden each year and Judy would can for days at a time the fruits of their labor. She enjoyed flower gardening and all you had to do was look around her yard to see that the hard work paid off.

A lady that loved the Lord and would diligently study His Word, Judy lived her life as an example to others. She loved her family and took every opportunity to show them just how much. Judy had a very close connection with her sister Gwen and many thought it was because she was born on Elvis' birthday. Elvis just happened to be Judy's all-time favorite entertainer.

When free time presented itself, Judy loved to travel. Many times, jumping in the car with no real destination, just enjoying the sites and beauty of God's creation. She was known to take a few bus trips, and Texas and Florida were a couple of states she liked to visit. She was drawn to water and Grand Lake was a favorite place to swim. According to her family Judy could be stoic at times but would rather be smiling and laughing. She was known for her great sense of humor, and her favorite comedian was Johnathan Winters. Judy liked to collect owls and listen to music. Her family was somewhat surprised at the broad spectrum of music she listened to. Of course, Elvis was her all-time favorite, but Rod Stewart was on the list, as well as Johnny Cash and a wide array of British singers.

A lady that has left a legacy that will live on in the lives of her family and friends. Judy is survived by her nephews, Larry Steidley and wife Glenna, Dwayne Steidley and wife Teresa, great nephews, Robert Steidley and Terrence Steidley. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Florene Barnes, husband Balford Stone, and sister, Gwen Steidley and her husband J.D. Steidley.
