Mary passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at home with her family by her side. She was 87.
Mary Helen Scott was born on September 30, 1936, in Garfield, Arkansas to Lewis and Ruth (Graham) Carter. She attended school in Rogers, Arkansas, where she graduated high school. On April 28, 1962, she married the love of her life, Troy D. Scott. Together they built a beautiful life and made their home in Tulsa before settling in Claremore in 1973.
While in Tulsa, Mary worked for Sun Oil for a time. However, her most joyous role was that of being a wife and mother. She wholeheartedly embraced her responsibilities at home and nurtured her family with unwavering love and care. As her children grew older, Mary decided to take on new challenges outside the home. She ventured into the real estate industry and embarked on a fulfilling career. Mary worked first for John Williams Real Estate and later for Rose Ann Reality. Her dedication to her clients and knack for closing deals brought immense satisfaction to her professional life.
Although Mary achieved great success in her career, it paled in comparison to her remarkable qualities as a person. She possessed an innate ability to recognize those who needed help and support. Mary would extend a helping hand without hesitation or expectation of anything in return.
Mary's caring nature extended beyond her immediate family. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and created lifelong memories while playing cards or games with them. Known for her competitiveness during these playful sessions, she imparted valuable life lessons about the importance of determination and resilience.
A devoted member of Blue Starr Church of Christ, Mary and her husband were very active in many ministries at the church. Together they loved being a part of the Joy Bus Ministry, leading young people to the Lord. Mary also taught Sunday School, lead the ladies Bible class, and was an intricate part of Vacation Bible School. Her love of the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life.
Beneath her caring exterior, Mary enjoyed indulging in her hobbies and interests. An avid reader, she eagerly subscribed to Readers Digest, finding it almost impossible to put down any book she started until the very last page. In addition, Mary dedicated time every day to read the Tulsa World from cover to cover, staying informed about the world around her.
Mary's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed by her children, Sheryl Thomas of Searcy, Arkansas, Mike Scott and wife Dolly of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Sharon McGuire and husband Pat of Claremore, Oklahoma. Mary's grandchildren, Kelsy McGuire, Meredith Skidmore and husband Nicholas, Dailey Dillard and husband Ryan, Troy Scott, Trey Thomas, Erin McGuire, Josie Scott, and Ellie Scott were cherished by their devoted grandmother. Her sweet sister Marie Pitts and numerous nieces and nephews, church family and friends will miss her greatly.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Troy Scott, and her siblings Billy Carter, J.C. Carter, JR Carter, and Joyce Lee Morgan.
The family would like to give special thanks to all who were involved with Mary's care, especially Gina Day, with Miller Hospice, who made Mary's last days better.
